I just won another auction!

I just won another auction! Ten new team members, who I will see arrive within a couple of days. It took jus 12 bids and cost me $ 3.74. Normally PSAS to go come at almost $4 apiece (and most of them never get active or are active a few days and then drop out.) So you can bet I am very happy!
How I did it? Just noticed that every time someone was bidding it was someone different (no "buck" sitting on it). Got a couple of bids in the nick of time, but won it finally. What a surprise when it actually happened!

Nowadays I realize that I can bid on any item; if I can't get it sent to  me I can use the gift certificate value and get some other product from TripleClicks, or I can get TCredits instead. The only thing is you have to find an auction that is not hot. You need to have some time to observe the action and decide on the right one. This new one I won manually, without using AutoBid.

This was not one of my New year's resolutions, but I have started being more active at the auctions and using the tools provided and that actually got me 2 wins so far! I won 20 TCredits for under a dollar and 10 Personally SPonsored Affiliates for $1.74, which were delivered to me within 3 days and one of them is active. Pretty cool!



So how do you win an auction? You need to sit and watch how it is going for a while. The mini-auctions, for TCredits or 3 PSAs and so on,  usually do not take very long, maybe 15-20 minutes, whereas the more popular items can take more than 20 hours. It is not much use to bid when someone is using Autobid, you will just use up your credits. You can see that because there is bidding going on but the same name is always the highest. That will be someone who is on Autobid and until he runs through the max amount of TCredits he has set (nunber of bids) you are basically wasting your bids. Once you see that the name has changed this probably means that he has run out and you can go in. Of course the risk is that if everybody thinks so the Autobidder will win, and in fact, this is often the case.

One possibility is to become an Autobidder yourself. This works, but you can also run yourself out of TCredits/bids in record time if there is a second Autobidder or if the item is very popular. Out of five times I have tried, 2 auctions ended before my set price was reached and so none of my bids were used. Two cost me a lot of bids but I was overbid by others and one I won. The other one I won I did not use Autobid but bid manually. That is the other option; just spend a lot of time watching and bidding strategically.



The great thing with these auctions is of course the incredible prices.

I have won several auctions myself, and for being so nice as to read my blog, I will give you my tips for winning: 

1. For the first few months do not bid. Just observe the auctions, get a feel for how they go and check the winners and winning prices at the Pick the Price page (you can click on the History of each product and see whom has won what when and for which price and even duration of the auction). Some times of day there are not so many people online. Other parts of the day are very busy. Depending on which time zone you are in, find out where the non-busy pockets of times are. 

2. This will also give you the opportunity to collect a lot of TCredits (assuming you have set up a Standing Order for TCredits to retain your Executive Affiliate status. In the beginning I would limit myself to, say, 10 TCredits a day to be spent on bidding. Often you have no chance then. There is a group of people who do nothing else than bidding and they might be willing to spend hundreds of TCredits (which they have, because they win them) to win that particular auction. 

3. Check how the auction is going. As said above, sometimes a particular person is set on winning no matter what the cost, and aggressively outbids anyone. If this is the case it is better left alone, because it may cost you a lot of TCredits without a return on your investment. If the bidders constantly vary you have way more chance.

4. Personally (and I know others do this) I wait until the clock is at 5 seconds before bidding. I know it just resets the clock, but any other person also intending to bid will probably have done so by then (and reset the clock). If you are running very low on TCredits or on time you might decide to let it pass and see if anyone else will bid at the last second, but I have lost several auctions in this way, because the others did the same. So now, I select the particular auction that I want, observe if there is no "agressive buck" sitting on it, and then I prepare to just keep on bidding at 5 seconds until I win. 

5. The auction clock goes faster and faster with more bidding. Personally I only bid on an auction in the beginning, unless I am just doing it for the points without intending to bid seriously. I suppose other people do the same, otherwise the auctions would never get started :)
